How To Fix Apple Watch Nightstand Mode Not Working In watchOS 4 & iOS 11
With the Nightstand mode, you can now place your Apple Watch on its side when charging, and the screen will then display a clock, and the current date. The new feature allows you to use your Watch as a smart alarm clock.
How To Turn On Nightstand Mode
You don’t have to enable Nightstand mode as an independent feature. All you need to do is placing your watch on its side and then connecting it to the charger. Nightstand mode will automatically be enabled.
To check whether your Apple Watch has already activated Nightstand mode, simply press the side button and when you see the date and time, that’s it.
No Nightstand mode in watchOS 4 or iOS 11
This is a new issue that some users recently complained. After updating to iOS 11 and watchOS 4 versions, the Nightstand mode is no longer visible, even they do the right steps.
The only thing that is still working is the charger. If this issue happens to your device, try the following fixes.
The Apple Watch also has its own orientation feature, which means if you place it on an opposite side, Night Mode feature will not work.
- First, launch the Watch app on your iPhone
- Go to General > Watch Orientation
- Pick and select between Left Wrist and Right Wrist
- Check again to see if Nightstand mode is working.
Enable Nightstand mode
As mentioned, you do not have to turn on Nightstand mode from Settings. Although this is true for some people as it was already enabled for them, the same option might not be applied to your watch. That time you need to manually turn on Nightstand mode for your Watch.
- Launch the Watch app on your iPhone
- Go to My Watch > General
- Check if the Nightstand Mode is enabled
Once you switch the Nightstand Mode to On, check if it works now.

If you have already checked your watch’s orientation as well as Nightstand mode option in Settings, but it’s still not working, you should now force restart your Apple Watch.
Simply press and hold the side button and Crown button for 10 seconds. Let go of it until you see the Apple logo.
Nightstand mode is also said to stop working in watchOS 4 and iOS 11. But you can apply the same methods if this feature doesn’t respond on your older Apple Watch devices or operating system such as watchOS 3 and iOS 10.
