Steps To Preview Mac apps In App Store On Your iPhone/ iPad

Before the iOS 11, a Mac app linking in Safari on your iPhone or iPad will yield a warning message that says you could only download macOS apps with Mac App Store on your computer. However, with the improvement of App Store in iOS 11, it has changed that behavior.

It’s now possible to bring up Mac app previews on your iPhone/iPad. You will no longer have to switch to your Mac just to take a glance at basic information for a Mac app you interest, including  its description, screenshots and more.

On iOS 10 and previous versions, following a Mac app link brings up the page in App Store, which notifies that you must use Mac App Store to preview the app.

After 7 years, we can finally access macOS app previews right on iPhones and iPads with the help of iOS 11. In this post, we’ll show you how to preview Mac apps in App Store on your iPhone and iPad running iOS 11.

Steps to preview Mac apps in App Store on iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch Safarior any browser on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 11.
  2. Tap on the URL bar and type in the search query.

Note: To narrow down the search to Mac apps, you should come with the format “APP NAME Mac App Store”. For example, if you want to preview Readdle’s PDF Expert for Mac, type in the query “PDF Expert Mac App Store”. After that, Mac app links will show at the top of search results.

  1. Tap on appropriate Mac app link in the results.
  2. You’re prompted whether you want to open the link in App Store. If yes, tap Opento continue.

After that, a full preview of the selected Mac app will open in App Store!

Although you cannot install apps to your Mac remotely through the App Store, this is still a good preview so that you know everything about the app prior to opening its page in Mac App Store on your Mac.
