How to create back up for your iPhone or iPad

You usually store your photos, messages, documents and more right on your iPhone/iPad. Saying in another word, iPhone/iPad is your memories and your preferences. Your data is important, so the best way to protect your data is to back it up. There are two common ways to back up your iPhone/ iPad. They are via iCloud, or iTunes software installed on your computer. You should also maintain a regular backup routine to keep out of something wrong happens to your iPhone or iPad, like getting lost or stolen. Here is how to create backup for your iPhone/iPad

How to back up via iCloud on your iPhone/ iPad

Using iCloud to back up as a solution for your iPhone or iPad is a great idea. If anything happens to your device, you can access from anywhere with an internet connection to back up your data. But before starting, you need to turn on  iCloud backups on your device.

  • Launch the Settings app from your home screen.
  • Tap on iCloud > Backup
  • Turn on iCloud Backup by toggling the switch next to it.
  • A warning says that your iPhone will no longer back up to your computer automatically. Just tap on OK.

iCloud will then start a backing up your data every 24 hours, every time your iPhone or iPad is connected to Wi-Fi and plugged in to charge, and most of the time it will do that while you sleep

How to turn iTunes backups on

If you don’t want to store your data in iCloud, you can locally store them on your computer as well.

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes.
  • Click on your device icon on the left side of the iTunes window.
  • Select Summary
  • Then choose This computer under Automatically Backup.

  • Tick the box for Encrypt local back up to make sure that your passwords, health data… are backed up.
  • Create a password to secure your encrypted backups. The password will be automatically stored in Keychain.
  • When finished, click on Done.

How to back up manually your iPhone/ iPad via iTunes

Once you have enabled iTunes backups, your device will be backed up automatically every time you connect it to your computer. But you can still manually back up your iPhone/iPad in case you want to make a new backup.

  • Connect your iPhone/iPad to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes.
  • Click on your device icon on the left side of the iTunes window.
  • Select Summary tab from the sidebar.
  • Under Manually Back Up and Restore, select Back Up Now
  • Click on Done when you are finished.
